In the music video for Miss Jackson by the group Outkast, there is a few scenes straight out of a homeowners nightmare. The protagonist sits inside his home on a rainy evening, with a dozen pots and pans spread around his living room and kitchen to collect the rain water dripping through his roof and ceiling. Later we see him, still in the storm, upon his roof with a hammer attempting to patch the holes. (We do not suggest being on your roof in a storm, it is dangerous.)
The scene is supposed to denote melancholy, and throughout all mediums, a patchy and leaky roof is used as a form of symbolism to display ones social standing, or attitude as the case may be. In real life, a leaky roof generally does lead to melancholy, but typically due to the fact that a hole or leak in the roof is viewed as an insurmountable problem that can only be fixed by throwing money at it until it goes away.
